Martin Truex Jr. Charlotte Recap
CORNELIUS, N.C. – No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota driver Martin Truex Jr. finished 10th in Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
The Michael Waltrip Racing driver started sixth and moved to third early in the race and appeared ready to contend for the victory. Truex and crew chief Chad Johnston spent much of the race working to make the NAPA Toyota turn better on the 1.5-mile oval.
A late race stop for fuel kept Truex from battling for the victory. The NAPA AUTO PARTS team returns to action Sunday at Kansas Speedway. Truex will start the sixth race in the 10-race Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup in seventh just 49 points out of first.
"Congratulations to Clint and the 15 team,” said Truex. “They had a fast car and could go for it on fuel mileage. They certainly have that figured out and I am happy for them. We needed a car that handled better before we could take that gamble. This track has been tough for us. We started out really strong but lost some track position and it was so hard to get it back when we were in traffic. It was so hard to pass. My car was just too tight especially behind a car. For us to have a tough day and still finish tenth says a lot about this NAPA team. We still need to figure this place out. Again, congratulations to Clint and the 15 team."
